Who in their right mind would launch a business during a pandemic with a frightful recession looming?
I ask myself that question frequently. I keep telling myself that our potential customers are all home and drinking more, staying in is the new going out, friends virtually socialising on Zoom, people building home bars in the garden, it feels comfortable in our bubble - our home. Is that just me?
Many small businesses like ourselves at Sweet Drinks, have been faced with making quick changes and decisions over the past few months to survive, stay afloat and plan our ‘new normal’.
What a journey it has been to get to this point. Wish I could have launched Sweet Drinks Ltd with a spectacular drinks reception to invite you to, but hey, this is the new normal! For now, we are virtually here for you…along with amazing local Makers that we would love you to meet!
I am delighted to announce the launch of www.sweetdrinks.co.uk online as of 7pm on Wednesday 17th June 2020!
This is a showcase of West Country Drinks Producers. We are continually talking and collaborating to bring together more West Country drink producers in the weeks and months to come, so please do keep visiting the site to see what is new.
The struggle has been real for so many local drinks producers we have been talking with. Many of us would have an events season in full swing providing tasters and selling drinks at events and shows throughout the Summer months. Much of their trade business would be selling into pubs, farms shops, cafes and restaurants - this all pretty much came to a standstill. I have followed many of their journeys on social media and through various conversations. Their ability to adapt to get the products produced, sold and delivered to consumers direct has been truly outstanding. At Sweet Drinks Ltd, we want to do our bit to help support West Country Drinks Producers who are not stocked in the supermarkets.
I have not been to a large supermarket once since lockdown. My new normal has become local stores, independent local businesses who have provided everything I have needed and wanted. I have made a conscious effort to buy and support local, I know I am not alone. Many of us have changed our views and buying habits for the better.
When it comes to drinks produced in the West Country, the choice is incredible, you just might not know about them yet. Well now you will, we are delighted that several drink producers are collaborating and joining us at the time of launch. Check out their Meet the Maker pages on our website.
In our online shop, we will typically stock a small selection of their range and usually smaller bottles, so that you can buy a selection from various Makers to try before you commit to larger bottles, cans or quantities. We do encourage you to go direct to the Maker’s website if you wish to buy larger quantities or volumes or perhaps you will visit them in person someday soon.
I hope you love the website and enjoy the local drinks introduced to you over the coming months and years. Treat yourself or someone else to a few bottles and start to create new memories of good times to treasure whilst supporting local drinks producers.
